Whatsapp Is Working On Live Location Tracking While Chatting

Have you ever felt the need to know where someone is while chatting on Whatsapp? Has someone ever lied to you about their location while chatting? If you said “Yes” to those questions, look no further. Whatsapp is working on a new feature called Live Location Tracking. This feature would enable users to show their location to members of a group chat.

Hold your horses though. The feature is not yet available. However, it looks like it has been included in the beta version of the Whatsapp app for both Android and iOS.

The feature will not be automatically turned on, however, so the user gets to decide if he/she wants people to know where they’re chatting from. That’s a good sign. It means I don’t have to tell them when I’m on the toilet, but I can show off when I’m at the mall, buying some swanky stuff. Even cooler is the fact that users will have the option to enable the Live Location Tracking for a limited time period. That means you could activate it for as little as one minute, or as much as five minutes. The potential for mischief is just limitless.

On a more serious note, the Live Location Tracking function has some sweet benefits. For example, it would help people meet each other more easily. We all know that a lot of young people nowadays spend loads of time on social media. Therefore, it could get difficult to meet up if you have no idea where the dude you’re talking to is.

Furthermore, everyone in a group, family or team can keep an eye on each other. Dad wouldn’t need to ask again, “Where are you right now?” Rather, he’d be asking, “What’s going down in *insert location here* right now?”. Nice. Really nice.
